On the eve of St. Nicholas feast day, we read our favorite story about St. Nicholas and then the kids laid their shoes in front of the fireplace with some cookies they decorated for St. Nicholas. The older girls wrote their letters to St. Nicholas which tell him what they plan to give each other at Christmas, and making one request for a special gift for Christmas. St. Nicholas will be coming by tonight to pick up the letters and read how generous they plan to be in giving to others and leave them a little treat.
The kids went to bed with great excitement, and thankfully, quite exhausted too.
In the wee hours of the night, St. Nicholas stopped by to leave them treats, pick up the letters, and enjoy the specially decorated sugar cookies:
St. Nicholas left a stuffed "doll" to color of, well, himself, chocolate coins, candy canes, a chocolate angel, and $2 in quarters which the kids will get to use at the used book store at the library to pick out their own book!
